No Tolls for Disabled Veterans on SH 130

For years I've been working with Texas State Senator Judith Zaffirini's office on a simple idea: disabled veterans shouldn't have to pay tolls on State Highway 130.

Here's the problem. If you're a disabled veteran with DV plates, you can ride the state-run northern half of SH 130 for free. But keep driving south past Mustang Ridge toward Seguin — the part run by a private company — and a bill shows up in your mailbox. Same road, same veteran, different bill. That ain't right.

In 2025, Senator Zaffirini filed SB 1256, a bill to fix it with a veteran discount program for SH 130. It died in committee. She's bringing it back, and when it gets a hearing, I'll be there to testify for it.

In March 2026, her office sent me a signed letter on the bill and asked me to keep them posted on every group I talk to about it. This is years of work, not a new hobby.

Disabled veterans already paid — in service. They shouldn't pay again at a toll booth.

Working With Senator Zaffirini

Senator Zaffirini's team asked me for an endorsement during her re-election. I recorded this on a cross-country ride in Washington State. She told me it drew the most endorsements of her career.
